They go. I stay.
And so three of the biggest influences of my life are moving on to the next points of their lives. One, perusing a doctorate in Illinois. Another, in the Teach for America program in Hawaii. The third, attending Med School in Colorado. I know all three are going to be perfectly fine in their new states. They always are.
Even though I will never publicly admit the impact that these three have left on my life, I will not lie about how I am suddenly feel an emptiness. I know that we are only a technological device away from communicating, but it definitely is not the same as having the option of driving out to see them.
Again, they will do great. I do not have to wish them the best. They already will be on that path. While they leave, I stay here forever thankful for their time in my life. Here instead is to seeing you soon.
I consider all men equal, but thank you to what I basically saw as a father, a son, and a twin brother. I will be here back at home doing my own big things just as we always have.
old habits die hard
People forget, Kobe was the original Blake. Jordan was the original Kobe. Dr. J was the original Jordan. Elgin Baylor was the original Dr. J.
“So we go on, boats against the current, borne back ceaslessly into the past.”
